Strap length for the MRT
For most women in Singapore (155–170cm), an adjustable strap with a maximum drop of 55–60cm sits at hip level — the ideal crossbody height. Adjustable is non-negotiable at any price above S$100: everyone's build is different, and a fixed strap on a mid-priced bag is a red flag.
Zips over magnets, always
Zip closures protect against pickpockets on packed MRT carriages and keep contents dry when the afternoon storm rolls in. Magnetic flaps are elegant but pop open when the bag swings against a Grab door. For any bag you wear crossbody in public, choose a zip top.
Size — small on purpose
20–24cm width is the sweet spot: phone, cardholder, keys, compact umbrella, lipstick. Any larger and you lose the hands-free feel. If you need to carry a laptop, that is a separate bag — do not stretch a crossbody into a work tote.
Styling in Singapore
Cocoa and caramel slings pair easily with linen, denim and summer dresses. Black is the safest travel pick — hides scuffs and disappears against most outfits. Skip loud hardware if you plan to wear the bag to the office as well as the weekend.
